A former pastor, mentor, friend, and 2nd father to me, John Jeffers frequently used words similar to these when describing the events of Christ last Week: “The religious leaders of the day could not accept that fact that Jesus kept saying God loves us freely and freely forgives all of our sins. It was in conflict with their teachings and understanding of God. And, when Jesus refused to quit saying that God loves and forgives, it cost him his life… on the cross. All surely seemed lost. Then Easter! Resurrection! The Day of Days! And that event validated everything that Jesus had been saying about God’s love toward all of us!”
It is the central theme of what we call Gospel… Good News! Good News for Everyone! Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Alleluia!
