Looking Ahead…

I am so excited about the College Choir Reunion weekend, May 24-26. We have over 90 former participants in our college ministry returning to our church from as far away as Washington State and California. They return because of what they experienced here at Auburn First Baptist. They return because of what they felt here at Auburn First Baptist. They return because their faith was nourished and grew here while at Auburn First Baptist. They return because they established life-long friends while here at Auburn First Baptist. They return because of the mountain-top experiences of worship they shared here at Auburn First Baptist. They return because they love Auburn and Auburn First Baptist. They return to lift their voices once again to God in praise… offering their very best… for God deserves and desires our best.

And we will welcome them back with enthusiasm and a sense of pride knowing that our family of faith, Auburn First Baptist, played a part in their faith development. How can we show this enthusiasm? I would suggest in two very tangible ways. First, be present Sunday morning, May 26th, when they will combine with our Sanctuary Choir to create a Festival Chorus which will present a Sacred Concert during our 11:00 a.m. worship service. And secondly, by participating in the Church-Wide Covered Dish meal in the Activities Building following worship.

My favorite hymn, When In Our Music God is Glorified, speaks of music used in the worship of God in this manner:

When in our music God is glorified,
and adoration leaves no room for pride,
It is as though the whole creation cried Alleluia!

My hope and prayer is that on Choir Reunion Sunday… and every Sunday for that matter, we might sense all of creation joining in our Alleluia!

Amen!
