Hymn #264 in Celebrating Grace Hymnal — “Where Charity and Love Prevail”
[pullquote_center width=”80%”]Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found;
Brought here together by Christ’s love, by love are we thus bound.
Let strife among us be unknown, let all contention cease;
Be Christ the glory that we seek, be ours His holy peace.[/pullquote_center]
I sautéed chicken last night for supper. Now, I have found that sautee is a fancy French word for fry. How do I know this? Because, this afternoon when I walked in the door from work, I was virtually punched in the nose by that you fried chicken in here, didn’t you? smell. There was just no denying it.
I think the church is a lot like that. Want to know if someone’s been frying chicken? Take a big sniff. Want to know if the presence of God is honored in a place, or among the members of a group? Look around. Do you see charity and love spilling out all over everything? Have strife and contention been settled and reconciled? Is the glory of Christ sought above all else? Then know this: you are in a place where God is found.
Fried chicken, anyone?
