Hymn #457 in Celebrating Grace Hymnal — “Come and Feast, for all are Welcomed”
[pullquote_center width=”85%”]Come and feast, for all are welcomed at God’s table spread with love.
Come proclaim God’s grace and goodness in, around us, and above.
Come and feast, for all are welcomed at God’s table spread with love.[/pullquote_center]
Psalm 34:8 reminds us to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” Celebrating the feast of love we call communion, or the Lord’s supper, is a wonderful way to taste and see God’s love. As a matter of fact, the feast is multi-sensory—we see the elements, smell the aroma of vine and loaf, feel the bread or the hand that passes it, taste the richness of the earth, even hear the pouring of the cup. If God finds so many ways to touch us, how can we fail to hear the message of welcome in the feast? How can we restrain ourselves from reaching out, welcoming the world to the table? How can we look across the table, into the eyes of another of God’s children, and not see the goodness?
I won’t miss the chance to taste and see the goodness of the Lord in the feast. Will you?
