Auburn First Baptist Church is delighted to announce as its new pastor, Dr. John M. “Tripp” Martin, III.
Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Tripp earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, a Master of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. In addition to these degrees, Tripp has completed a Certificate in Baptist Studies from Mercer University, as well as a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Tripp’s experience in Baptist ministry is both broad and deep. The First Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia, ordained Tripp to the ministry in 2003. From 2003 to 2009, he served as Associate Pastor of Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2009, Vineville Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia, called Tripp as pastor, and he has served faithfully and with great reputation as senior pastor for the last four years.
I believe ministry is deficient if not genuine
Church is lacking without shared community
Faith is unfinished without serving people’s need
And a minister is incomplete if not compassionate.
Tripp’s commitment to Baptist principles and heritage is evident through his denominational service. He is a member of both the Baptist Advisory Board of Mercer University and the Board of Visitors of McAfee School of Theology, and has served on the coordinating councils of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in both Georgia and Mississippi. He is a new member of the Board of Trustees of the Alliance for Christian Media.
Tripp is married to Katharine Young Martin of Greenville, South Carolina, who has degrees from Wake Forest University in English and education. Katharine taught high school English in Brandon, Mississippi, for six years. Tripp and Katharine are proud parents of two sons, J.D. and Hunter.

To learn more about Tripp and Katharine, you are invited to listen to audio from AFBC’s “Meet the Martins” event on Saturday, 17 August, and also read “Fun Facts About the Martins” (PDF) and “Quotable Quotes: Tripp Martin” (PDF).
