We are looking forward to the fourth celebration of our annual Claude H. Moore Lectures on Sunday, September 17. We will welcome Dr. Mike Williams back to Auburn First Baptist Church, as he talks about, “Witnesses to the Baptist Heritage: Reflections on the Reformation, Reformations, and Baptist Testimony in a Changing World.” During this year, where we remember the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we look forward to this discussion.
Dr. Williams has a personal connection to Auburn First Baptist Church, having been a part of this congregation as a college student and serving as the Youth Director during that time. Since graduating from Auburn University, Dr. Williams has earned a M.Div. and Ph.D. with an emphasis in church history from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is Professor of History at Dallas Baptist University. He has also served as Editor of Texas Baptist History for ten years. He is the author of several books, including I.T. Tichenor and the Creation of a Baptist New South.
We are grateful to the Claude H. Moore family in making these opportunities possible, having gained from these lectures each year. We benefit from these opportunities for study and worship, as they enrich the life of our congregation. They are a gift to us, as we are able to widen our network of friendships and gain from insightful speakers.
We will gather on Sunday, September 17 at 9:15 a.m. for a church-wide brunch. Everyone is invited to bring a brunch item to the Fellowship Hall. Our youth, college, and adult Sunday School classes will remain in the Fellowship Hall for Dr. Williams’ lecture, and then we will all gather for worship, where he will serve as our guest preacher.
We are thankful for the rhythms and routines of the church, which shape our lives, providing us refuge as well stirring our spirits. We are also grateful for these special opportunities that we find in the midst of those rhythms and routines. As always, we give thanks for the church, as the body of Christ, and what it means to each of us.
