The Sound of Music

In the iconic film, The Sound of Music, Julie Andrews, who plays, Maria, sings My Favorite Things. She sings about rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens. These things renew her spirits! During this season, one of our favorites things is the music of Advent and Christmas.

We look forward to singing Silent Night, as we hold our candles on Christmas Eve. We give thanks for the carols and hymns, which have shaped our lives throughout the years. The music of Advent and Christmas remind us of the value of music in our faith.

One person, who is instrumental in our music, is Dawn Driggers. On December 1, Dawn will celebrate her five-year anniversary as the accompanist at Auburn First Baptist. She plays an integral role in the music ministry of the church, where music is so important to our faith. We are thankful for her gifts and dedication to our music!

On Sunday morning, the piano lifts the voices of the Sanctuary Choir, and on Sunday evening, she is accompanying the Youth Choir, shaping their faith through music. She plays the keys of the piano with feeling and expertise, allowing us to hear more of God’s grace in the beauty of music. We are grateful for all the many ways she leads us in worship!

As we give thanks for her anniversary, I invite you to write her notes of gratitude. They can be sent to the church office. We can express our thanksgiving for her ministry with us.

We continue to look forward to the music of Advent and Christmas. On Sunday, December 4 at 6:15 p.m., our Preschool, Children, and Youth Choirs will sing! We will light the Chrismon Trees, as our children and youth decorate them.

On Sunday, December 11, the Sanctuary Choir will share its music with us during worship. The First Bells will play on Sunday, December 18.

We will continue to sing on Christmas Eve and in worship on Sunday, December 25 at 11:00 a.m., celebrating the joy of Jesus’ birth!
