The Journey of Lent: Walking with Jesus

On Wednesday, February 22, we will begin the journey of Lent, which will take us through forty days of reflection and repentance to the events of Holy Week and the joy of Easter morning. After our Pancake Supper on Fat Tuesday, we will gather on Ash Wednesday for the imposition of ashes. We will be marked with the sign of the cross as we take the first steps of this journey.

The journey is focused on following Jesus, reclaiming the practices of our faith and listening to the stories of Jesus’ life. One way in which we will pay attention to Jesus is through our Lenten Lunches. We will gather each week on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, beginning on February 22 and not meeting on March 8 because of Spring Break. We will enjoy lunch for $5.00, or you can bring your lunch with you.

We will benefit from the work of Diana Butler Bass, as we consider Jesus as our Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence. Each of these are ways in which we can learn from Jesus, and they can shape our journey during Lent. They will help us reclaim old lessons as well as to cultivate fresh ways of understanding Jesus.

“Walking with Jesus: Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence”

March 1 – Teacher

March 8 – Not Meeting, Spring Break

March 15 – Savior

March 22 – Lord

We embark on this journey with one another and the Church around the world! With each step, as we walk with Jesus, we will discover the impending shadows of Holy Week starting to fall upon our lives; but we will also anticipate the light of Easter, which illuminates the goodness and grace of God all around us.
