In recent years, we have celebrated a Baby Shower for the Community Market on Mother’s Day! We gather on the Courtyard after worship, bringing items for babies as we enjoy cupcakes and conversation with one another. We are grateful for the Mission Committee hosting this event each year!
The Community Market, which serves our community faithfully, has a baby closet with items for infants. We bring diapers, formula, and wipes, supplying this closet for the youngest in our community. Families in and around Auburn and Opelika benefit from the baby closet as they care for their children. (There is a list of needed items on the back of the newsletter.)
We support the Community Market in various ways. We volunteer at the Community Market, stocking shelves and serving customers. We support it financially. Auburn First Baptist made a three-year commitment of $10,000 each year for the Community Market Capital Campaign. We have made two of those payments. Our youth also made a three-year commitment of $5,000 each year. They have also made two payments.
On Sunday, May 10, the small gifts we bring for the baby closet will be just as important as these financial contributions. They will benefit families who cannot keep up with the number of diapers that are necessary or the baby food that is hard to keep supplied in the pantry. We celebrate each child with these gifts as we remember the families who need extra support!
We serve the children of our community because we are all God’s children. As we gather on the Courtyard, we will tend to children’s needs and celebrate their lives. When we widen our circle of care and concern, we also create room for joy and hope to fill our community. We give thanks for the Community Market and how we can partner with them!
